Part 1-Caring for Youth with ASD/IDD in Medical Settings

In this module, Dr Charney discusses how neurodiverse youth, especially those with limited verbal skills are at high risk for agitation in various medical settings. Dr Charney suggests how the clinic or pediatric floor can modify standard practice to best meet the needs of these youth and to reduce risk for aggression.

Part 2- Evaluating Behavioral and Psychiatric Symptoms in Youth with ASD/IDD

In this module, Dr. Charney reviews clinical pathways for evaluation of youth with changes in baseline behaviors. Dr Charney reviews how both medical and psychiatric co-morbidity may present with behavioral and symptom variants in this population (vs neurotypical youth).

Part 3- Using Psychotropic Medications in Youth with ASD/ID

In this module, Dr Charney reviews the current evidence based (and off label) medications that may be effective in treating specific target symptoms seen in ASD/IDD who do and do not have additional psychiatric comorbidity. Dosing and potential adverse effects of using psychotropic medications in youth with ASD/IDD is discussed.
