Dr. Elizabeth Charney presents the current epidemiology and known risk factors for depression in youth. Recognition of depressive presentations in both younger and adolescent children is discussed as well as common comorbidities. The importance of recognizing underlying medical illness and iatrogenic causes for depressed mood and/or neurovegetative changes is emphasized. Case examples from clinical practice apply this knowledge.
