Movies and Videos

Transhood: A documentary film on HBO that follows four young people and their families as they navigate growing up transgender in the United States.

Born to Be: A documentary film following the work of Dr. Jess Ting, a plastic surgeon working at the Mount Sinai Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery in New York.  The film is available for purchase on the website or through additional streaming platforms.

Disclosure: Trans Lives on Screen: A documentary film on Netflix that provides an in-depth look at Hollywood’s depiction of transgender people and the impact of their stories on transgender lives and American culture.

‘The T Word’: A documentary film available on YouTube that follows the lives of seven transgender youth.

The Trevor Project provides crisist intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning young people under 25. Patients can access a helpline 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 1-866-488-7386.  Youth may also chat through the website or text START to 678-678.

The Trans Lifeline operates a hotline answered by trans people to provide support 24 hours a day seven days a week by calling 877-565-8860.  Friends and family members looking for assistance can also call the hotline to receive support by asking the operator to speak with Friends and Family Line.

GLADD was founded in 1985 and works to rewrite the script for LGBTQ acceptance.  The organization works to influence cultural change and accelerate acceptance for LGBTQ community.

PFLAG was founded in 1973 and is the largest organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people, their parents and families, and allies. The organization has over 400 chapters and 200,000 members  throughout the United States. has compiled an extensive list of articles, videos, podcasts, and other resources related to supporting the Transgender Community.

Lurie Children’s Gender Development Program:  Accepts new patients up to age 21 (may follow established patients after age 21). Services include consultation and management for medical treatment related to transition, social support services, and parent support.

Howard Brown Health: Offers explicitly LGBTQ+ affirmative primary care, psychiatric services, and individual/group therapy. Their Broadway Youth Center provides resources for  education, health care, and programming.
